    The nearest hospital to Sheppard Air Force Base is the Red River Hospital located in Wichita Falls, Texas. The hospital offers immediate urgent care, surgical facilities and emergency room services. Call 940-322-3171 for more information. The main health clinic for outpatients at Sheppard Air Force Base is provided by the Family Practice Clinic which is open Monday through Friday from 0730-1800 and Saturday from 0730 to 1200. For routine health care appointments, call 940-676-1847.

    Call 676-1847 to make an appointment, get nurse advice or get clinic information. To make an appointment 24 hours a day, visit the TRICARE website at www.tricareonline.com.

    EMERGENCY CARE
    Sheppard Clinic does NOT have Emergency Services!

    WHAT IS AN EMERGENCY?
    An emergency is anything that threatens life, limb or eyesight. Examples include chest pain or head trauma

    Self-referred non-emergent emergency room visits may cost you!

    URGENT CARE
    Urgent care is non-life threatening injuries or illnesses, but acute medical care is needed. Examples of urgent care situations include severe sprains, lacerations, rising fever or earaches.

    In order to obtain urgent care after hours, call the appointment line at 676-1847. Choose option "2" to speak to the nurse advice line. Patients may be held responsible for self-referred urgent care.

    OUT OF AREA URGENT CARE
    If it's not an emergency but you feel medical attention is required before you can get back to Sheppard: call 1-877-676-1847 (toll free) for nurse advice.

    If you are advised to seek care:
    - Call Humana at (800) 444-5445 for assistance in finding a TRICARE authorized facility.
    - Call your primary care manager/nurse within one duty day with details of your visit or a bill will be generated to the patient.


    82ND MEDICAL GROUP
    The 82nd Medical Group is a premier outpatient clinic that provides comprehensive health services for 19,500 beneficiaries for the Sheppard military community and surrounding areas. The group maintains a large component of personnel ready to mobilize in support of any contingency worldwide and provides a training environment for students from the 882nd Training Group. Additionally, the 82nd MDG provides aerospace physiology services for the NATO alliance and DoD warfighters, instructors, their families and base civilian workers in the Euro-NATO Joint Jet Pilot Training program.


    CLINIC SERVICES
    The 82nd Medical Group Clinic offers the following services: audiology, dental, family advocacy, family health, flight medicine, health and wellness center, internal medicine, immunizations, laboratory, mental health, optometry, orthopedics, pediatrics, pharmacy, physical/occupational therapy, radiology, student health and women's health.


    CLINIC HOURS
    Normal Clinic Hours: Monday through Friday 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

    With the following exceptions:

    Student Health Clinic: 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. weekdays
    Saturday Clinic (Student Health Only): 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
    Main Pharmacy: 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

    Note the clinic is closed weekends, holidays, family days and the first Thursday morning of each month until 12:30 p.m. for training.


    PRIORITIES OF CARE
    Congressional mandates for priorities of care within a military treatment facility:

    Active duty (to include active reservists and guardsmen)
    Active duty family members enrolled in TRICARE Prime
    Retirees enrolled in TRICARE Prime
    TRICARE Plus enrollee's
    TRICARE Standard
    Other authorized direct-care patients, i.e., mother, father or in-laws

    Please note that if capacity is unavailable, TRICARE Standard and other direct-care patients will not be seen.


    PATIENT REFERRAL
    Patients may be referred to a specialist from their Primary Care Provider. Referrals are approved for a specific length of time and number of visits. Patients will need to keep track and follow up with their physician for additional visits or a new referral. Routine specialty care received without proper referral and/or authorization may result in the patient being liable for the cost of care.


    TRAVEL REIMBURSEMENT
    Travel reimbursement is authorized for TRICARE Prime beneficiaries who are traveling more than 100 miles (one way) with a valid referral from their Primarcy Care Manager office. Contact the travel clerk in patient administration at (940) 676-3505 for details and requirements prior to your appointment.

    Reimbursement for active duty members must be submitted through the Defense Travel System.
